Western Kshatrapas - Svami Simhasena (300 - 307 SE, 378 - 385 AD)
The Kshatrapas ruled western India from the first to the fifth century AD and their coinage had two important elements of interest.
Firstly, the coinage starting from 178 AD was dated in Saka Era specifying the year of reign of the ruler.
Secondly, their coinage detailed the names of the king and his father, thereby providing information establishing the lineage.
After the demise of Svami Rudrasena III, the crown had passed to his sister's son Svami Simhasena.
The succession seems to have occurred in 300 SE (378 AD), as coins issued by the ruler in the years 301, 302 and 303 are unknown till date.
The reign of Simhasena ended in 307 SE as this is the latest date shown on his coins.
After his death the dynasty seems to have split.
