Western Kshatrapas - 1st - 4th century AD
The Western Kshatrapas ruled a considerable part of Western India, had their origins from the Scythians.
Their coinage accredited with two important characters; inclusion of the father's name on the coinage and the year on which the coin was struck, clearly spelling out the reign of each ruler in the Saka year that started from 78 AD.
The rulers of this dynasty were defeated by Gautamiputra Satakarni and was completely defeated by Chandragupta II in 4th century.
Specifics of the coin shown below
Bhumaka coin over struck
Obverse - Arrow, Pellet and thunderbolt in Kharoshti inscription, Chaharasada Chatrapasa Bhumakasa.
Reverse - capital of pillar with lion (partially visible) and Dharmachakra to the left. Brahmi inscription Kshaharatasa Kshatrapa partly deciphered.
