Samatata Region - Rata Dynasty
Samatata was an ancient kingdom formed on the collapse of the Mauryan Empire in 232 BC.
They are believed to have been incorporated into the Gupta Empire by Samudra Gupta, around 335 AD.
The region is located at the mouth of the Brahmaputra and its boundaries well defined by mountains of Tripura and Arakan in the east and Meghna in the west.
Samatata was ruled by various dynasties which include Kadga, Rata, Deva, Chandra and Varman in the medieval period.
The Ratas were the feudatory chiefs under Kagda overlords.
The founder of the dynasty was Jivadharana Rata. He and the second king, Sridharana Rata, are styled as Samatateshvaras (lord of Samata).
