Venad

The Kingdom of Venad was the prominent kingdom of Malabar Coast. 
It was the forerunner to Travancore in the medieval period. 
Europeans were attracted to this region primarily in pursuit of black pepper. 
Venad was the centre of commerce and in trade with China too. 
Numismatic history of Venad starts with Vira Kerala Varma (1125 - 1155 AD)who introduced silver coinage.

Ruler  - Vira Kerala Varma Obverse - Virakeralasya in nagari scripts. Spider between the legend.
Reverse - Sri Gandaramkusasya and crocodile between the legend. 
Metal - Silver
