Jaisalmer
An independent state south of Thar, it was a caravan trade route between northern India and Central Asia.
The city of Jaisalmer was founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD and the lineage is traced to the Sikh rulers of Kapurtala.
Jaisalmer between 1156 and 1842 had turbulent past and the land had lost its women to the three Jauharas and men fighting the enemy lines.
Following the Mughal decline, it was subservient to the Marathas and later was under the protection of British East India Company in 1818.
Jaisalmer was involved in the First Anglo - Afghan War fought during 1839 - 42.
The Durrani government allegedly melted most of the looted coins but few were simply countermarked "rayij" (current) plus date AH 1188.
