Portuguese India
Portuguese were the earliest of European settlers.
Since Admiral D Alfonso de Albuquerque's conquest of Goa, it had been the capital of the Portuguese India, till annexed by Government of India in 1962.
Till the introduction of machine struck coinage in 1871, the hammered crude silver/copper/lead coinage was a collector's delight of Portuguese heritage. The interesting aspect of the hammered silver coinage was that no two coins were alike.
The money system of the Portuguese was complex and different from that of the other settlers that followed.
