Nagapatinam or "Porto Novo" Pagoda
Dutch East India Company - VOC (Vereenigde Oostidische Compagine or United East India Company) was established in 1602, often considered the first multinational corporation in the world, the first to issue stock and possessed quasi - governmental powers to wage war, imprison and execute convicts and establish colonies.
This company paid a dividend of 18% for two centuries to its shareholders. Weighed down by corruption in the late 18th century, the company went bankrupt and was dissolved in 1800 AD.
The Dutch took Nagapatinam from the Portuguese in 1658 which served as their capital in southeast India from 1690 until it was conquered by the British in 1784.
