Mughal Empire
Murad Baksh was the youngest son of Shah Jahan.
Shah Jahan favoured the eldest son, crown prince, Dara Shikoh to be his heir emperor. Shah Jahan's decision was palatable to his other sons and this lead to a power struggle and culminated in wars between his sons.
Murad Baksh rebelled and proclaimed himself the badshah at Ahmedabad while he was the governor of Gujarat, Malwa and Khandesh on receiving reports that his father was ill.
Murad Baksh joined the hands with the future Mughal emperor Aurangazeb to defeat Dara Shikoh. In fact, it was the ferocious charge led by Murad Baksh and his sowars that turned the outcome of the battle in favour of Aurangazeb during the battle of Samugarh.
Murad ruled for some months in AH 1068 ( 1657 - 58 AD ).
Coins were minted during his reign at Surat, Ahmedabad and Khambayat.
He was betrayed, imprisoned for three years and executed by Aurangazeb. He was the last of the brothers to be executed after Shah Shuja.
