Kadambas of Goa
The lineage of Kadambas is interesting.
Kadambas founded the first indigenous Kannadiga kingdom in the 4th Century. They ruled independently for two centuries and later came under the Chalukyas of Badami and Rashtrakutas.
In the late 10th century Kadambas supported Chalukyas against Rashtrakutas.
In support of their victory, Chalukyas gave some measure of independence to Kadambas over Goa and Hangal. Their capital was Gopakapattana.
The Kadambas enjoyed their independent rule over Goa for over 250 years and issued some of the best coinage of medieval India.
During their reign, the name and fame of Goapuri reached its zenith.
In 13th Century they succumbed to the Yadavas who transitioned to the Khiljis and absorbed into the Bahamani Kingdom.
